American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift contract requiring an active IL RN license and at least one year of experience.
Details- Acute Care Med/Surg unit with 29 beds and a typical census of 22-26 patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights
- Patient population includes GI bleeds, sepsis, cellulitis, CHF, COVID, comfort measures, osteomyelitis, DVT, pulmonary embolism, and elderly fall patients
- RNs titrate Heparin drips only
- No ventilators on the unit; patients may require oxygen up to 6L NC or stable BiPAP/CPAP
- Telemetry monitored remotely house-wide, primarily using Phillips equipment
- 24-hour Charge RN, Crisis RN, and administrative supervisor coverage available
- 24-hour PCT coverage with a 1:10 ratio
- Uses EPIC EMR
- 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) with shift report at 7a and 7p
- Every other weekend required (Fri/Sat for nights)
- Holidays rotated
- No call or standby requirements
- Travel RNs float first to other med/surg-like units, excluding ICU and chemo patients
- Active IL RN license required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- BSN not required
- EPIC EMR experience preferred
- Must be able to attempt IV starts using unit resources as needed
- Negative drug screen required for all panels
- Provide direct patient care to a wide range of medical diagnoses on an acute med/surg unit
- Inpatient phlebotomy team handles blood draws
- Unit clerk (PCL) provides 24-hour administrative support
- 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
- Any color scrubs accepted; no pediatric scrubs; clinicians provide their own
- First-time travelers may be considered
- No radius rule, though clinicians within 50 miles are eligible for local rates instead of travel rates
- Requested time off must be submitted in advance for consideration
