American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit requiring Level 1 trauma and prior travel experience, along with active IL licensure.

• Acute care Neuro Med-Surg unit with 54 beds (2 semi-private)
• Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and other neuroscience diagnoses, with some medical overflow
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
• Patient care techs support the unit at ratios of 1:9-10 on days/evenings and 1:10-12 on nights
• Charge nurse and house supervisor coverage 24/7, with charge nurse taking an assignment only when short-staffed
• Titration of drips required, including heparin gtt based on PTT
• High flow oxygen used occasionally for stable COVID patients
• House-wide telemetry monitoring with Phillips monitors; nurses are not required to read their own strips
• 12-hour day shifts
• Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) and every other holiday required
• No call or standby requirements
• Floats within the general unit rotation; travelers may float outside the unit only for skills they are competent in, paired with a trained staff nurse
• Uses EPIC EMR

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Level 1 trauma experience required
• Prior experience in a dedicated neuro unit required
• Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers not considered
• Heparin gtt titration experience required

• Provide direct patient care for a high-acuity neuroscience population
• 2-day unit orientation including computer training and one day shadowing a preceptor
• No scrub color requirement; tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings permitted while on duty
• Negative drug screen required for all panels as part of facility's drug-free campus policy
• COVID vaccination not required
• Local candidates accepted
