Position SummaryThe University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria seeks a talented research professional with a strong background in cancer research for the position of Research Scientist in the Department of Internal Medicine. This position focuses on research and scientific techniques within the fields of cancer, genetics, and infectious diseases. It will contribute to cutting edge translational and clinical research in thoracic oncology, with a focus on cancer biology, immunotherapy, microbiome interactions, and targeted therapies.
Duties & Responsibilities Research Leadership & Execution- Design, conduct, and analyze experiments in cancer biology, immunotherapy, and microbiome-related studies.
- Lead translational research projects involving patient‑derived organoids, extracellular vesicles, and CRISPR‑based screening.
- Collaborate on investigator‑initiated clinical trials and contribute to protocol development and data analysis.
- Assist in writing and submitting grant proposals to federal and industry sponsors.
- Prepare manuscripts for publication in high‑impact journals and contribute to conference abstracts and presentations.
- Mentor junior researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and students.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including clinicians, bioinformaticians, and pharmaceutical partners.
- Oversee daily operations of the research lab, including compliance with institutional and federal regulations.
- Manage budgets, timelines, and deliverables for funded projects.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
- Completed degree in Cancer Biology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of postdoctoral or equivalent research experience.
- Strong publication record in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Experience with translational research models such as organoids, xenografts, microbiome analysis.
- Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, cell culture, and data analysis.
- Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills.
- Experience in lung cancer research or immunotherapy.
- Familiarity with clinical trial design and regulatory processes.
- Prior experience in mentoring and supervising research staff.
- Knowledge of bioinformatics tools and data integration.
The salary range for the position is $60,000–$89,828 per year, competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
