Regional Sales Director – Responsibilities
The Regional Sales Director (RSD) reports to the Territory General Manager and is responsible for driving sales performance, delivering strategic revenue growth, expanding market share, and developing teams across a defined geography. The RSD leads the field execution of the commercial strategy by optimizing account targeting, coaching sales leaders and team leads, developing local market plans, and driving consistent performance across teams.
This role fosters a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and customer‑focused selling, ensuring that business, sales, and account plans are executed effectively, while key metrics are consistently met and exceeded.
- Strategic Sales Execution:
Build and lead regional execution plans that align with national and territory goals, translate commercial strategy into actionable sales plans with clear performance goals, ensure all accounts have documented plans with prioritized targets and conversion tactics, monitor sales funnel health, partner cross‑functionally with pricing, contracts, and business unit leaders to win and retain key business. - Sales Team Leadership:
Develop and coach Team Leads and field reps through regular ride‑alongs, weekly check‑ins, and structured development plans; drive quota attainment; lead regular pipeline reviews, team meetings, and coaching sessions; recognize and reward high‑impact behaviors. - People Development:
Attract, recruit, and retain top sales talent using behavior‑based evaluation and onboarding practices, ensure each team member receives consistent training, development support, and performance feedback, foster a collaborative, engaged culture. - Readiness and Capability Building:
Identify individual and team capability gaps through skill assessments, ensure new hires complete onboarding and are field‑ready, oversee clinical coverage and continuity of service across accounts. - Customer & Surgeon Engagement:
Develop strategic relationships with high‑value surgeons and key accounts, engage surgeon champions, gather customer insights, ensure differentiated customer experience through consultative selling and responsive service.

Qualifications & Skills- Strategic planning and field execution in complex, high‑stakes sales environments.
- Strong business acumen and ability to interpret market and performance data.
- In‑depth clinical and technical acumen of Zimmer Biomet products, orthopedic industry and competitor products and strategies.
- Proven ability to develop, coach, and retain sales talent.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
- Expert communication and influence skills across multiple internal and external stakeholders.
- Extremely detail oriented with strong organization and follow‑up skills.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Adaptability to a fast‑paced environment and ability to adjust to shifting priorities.
- Ability to collaborate cross‑functionally with pricing, contracts, marketing, and field teams to execute regional business plans.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or another relevant field required. Master’s degree preferred.
- 7+ years of successful medical device sales experience with at least 3 years in sales leadership roles.
- Extensive orthopedic knowledge including Zimmer Biomet and competitive product portfolios.
- Experience leading distributed teams and driving growth in competitive markets.

Travel ExpectationsUp to 50% travel across the region for field coaching, account visits, and leadership meetings.
CompensationExpected Compensation Range: $180,000 – $220,000 base salary with 40% target bonus.
