Account Executive Overview

The Account Executive is responsible for managing and growing an established portfolio of higher education institutions throughout the Midwest and Great Lakes region. This is not a prospecting-focused role; rather, the account executive partners with existing clients to strengthen relationships, drive retention, identify upsell and cross‑sell opportunities, and ensure institutions are maximizing the value of Nelnet Campus Commerce solutions.

Job Responsibilities
  • Retain current higher education accounts designated in territory.
  • Grow existing client base, identifying upsell and cross‑sell opportunities.
  • Collaborate with sales leadership to generate new business opportunities with current and prospective clients.
  • Build positive lines of communication to maintain and enhance relationships with clients.
  • Own overall client satisfaction by proactively anticipating client needs and maintaining monthly contact.
  • Conduct an annual on‑campus account review and communicate Nelnet’s value and long‑range planning objectives.
  • Assist in coordinating sales and product revisions to existing clients.
  • Expand knowledge of different ERP systems and how they integrate with Nelnet Campus Commerce solutions.
  • Work closely with technical support to understand the breadth and limitations of the client product solutions.
  • Advocate for client needs and new features, services, and programs to enhance solutions offered.
  • Participate in evaluating new product requests, creating business case studies to justify investment.
  • Coordinate and assist in the creation and distribution of client communications.
  • Generate, complete, and track project and change request forms, documenting in Salesforce.
  • Leverage relationships to expand Nelnet Campus Commerce solutions utilized by clients.
  • Attend trade shows, conferences, and other events to support client communication and engagement.
  • Gather competitive information to evaluate market position.
  • Coordinate Nelnet Campus Commerce Annual User’s Group Meeting.
  • Facilitate timely communication with clients and internal teams regarding client issues.
  • Review client contracts, maintain contract end dates, and proactively engage clients to extend or review terms.
  • Work with BDE, account managers, and other departments to develop strategic customer service plans and resolve customer issues.
  • Consult with Finance on contract, pricing, billing, and reconciliation issues.
Required Experience
  • Minimum of 3‑5 years of sales and account management experience.
  • Background in the higher education market.
  • Experience with billing, payment processing, and e‑commerce services is helpful.
  • Experience with commonly utilized higher education ERP systems such as Oracle People Soft/Cloud, Ellucian Banner/Colleague/Power Campus, Workday, Jenzabar, etc. is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience selling to, supporting, or managing relationships with colleges, universities, or higher education institutions.
  • Understanding of higher education administrative, financial, enrollment, student account, or technology environments.
  • Experience with higher education ERP, SIS, payment, or campus technology solutions.

Travel

Approximately 30% travel, primarily to clients and partners across the Midwest and Great Lakes regions. Candidates must reside within these regions.
