Job Description
Locate Technicians are responsible for accurately locating underground facilities including telephone communication lines, electric power lines, cable television lines, gas lines, fiber optic lines, water lines, and sewer lines. This position is a key component to ensure that the area complies with client and state requirements. Service duties include observing, locating, marking, and documenting underground and exposed utility locations using multiple methods.
Technicians may work independently or as part of a team under an assigned supervisor and must focus on using machinery and tools safely.
All applicants must complete a background check with no violations within the last five years and a DOT drug test. Grid Hawk LLC provides employees with company vehicles, laptops, smartphones, and all required personal protective equipment.
Duties- Locate underground facilities by using a transmitter and hooking up to a buried facility, pedestal, etc.
- Work in and walk over all types of terrain in construction zones, residential, commercial, industrial, and rural areas in all weather conditions.
- Interpret job order tickets, blueprints, and maps to route and perform duties efficiently.
- Perform locates and emergency/on‑call locates during regular, overtime, and holiday hours as necessary to meet customer needs.
- Complete all work in a timely, professional, and efficient manner while communicating effectively with customers, co‑employees, and third parties.
- Maintain knowledge of technology and tools needed for locating.
- Work cooperatively with others in a supervised team environment.
- High School Diploma or equivalency (GED).
- State‑issued driver’s license.
- Ability to problem‑solve and read, interpret, and decipher multiple types of prints.
- Experience operating a vacuum truck (A+ preferred).
- Physical ability to lift over 50 lbs and walk/stand for multiple hours a day.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Pass a background screening with no violations within the last five years.
- Pass a DOT drug test.
