The Truck Driver Trainer is primarily responsible for providing educational experience enabling students to learn and exhibit the safe operation of semi-trailer trucks through the use of classroom instruction, behind the wheel training and actual driving performance on the road and in the yard. This position also provides support of part-time instructors, including training and ensuring safety standards.

Compensation for the Trainer
- Truck Driver Education is $52,000 annually. This position will require the instructor to occasionally work evenings. This is a grant funded position through the Workforce Equity Initiative with an expected end date of 9/30/2026 with a possibility of the funding being extended.

Essential Functions:

• Instruct truck driver training program courses by communicating established course objectives and syllabi to the students, developing classroom presentations, activities and assignments in keeping with course objectives, and using evaluation instruments designed to measure course objectives.
• Train part-time instructors.
• Coordinate with Lead Instructor to update curriculum as needed to reflect current industry practices and developments.
• Drive, inspect, and clean trucks periodically.
• Recommend service for trucks when needed.
• Engage in quarterly safety/curriculum meetings with Truck Driver Training Instructors and Program Coordinator.
• Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Active Class A CDL license with acceptable driving record.
• Pass DOT physical and drug screen.
• 3 years of experience as a truck driver.
• 2 years of experience as a truck driver instructor/mentor.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Working knowledge of mechanical aspects of tractor/trailers.
• Working knowledge of DOT rules and regulations.
• Working knowledge of adult learning methodology.
• Ability to relate to students to assist them to increase retention and student success.
• Ability to tailor teaching style to individual students.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.

• College degree in related field.
• A passenger endorsement or the ability to obtain a passenger endorsement within 60 days of hire.
