Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire a Storekeeper I. The successful candidate, under the general supervision of the Services and Development Technician, assists in the daily operation of District 4’s warehouse, receives and stores a variety of equipment and commodity items within the bureau, maintains a current inventory of stock received and disbursed, disburses equipment items according to established procedures, and checks quantity and quality of items.

Functions
  • Receives and stores incoming equipment and commodity items in accordance with departmental safety rules.
  • Disburses warehouse commodity items and equipment according to purchase orders and authorized request forms.
  • Maintains inventory records, inputs data into computer of items received and disbursed, and keeps a current record of all items in the warehouse.
  • Checks quantity and quality of equipment items and inspects items for any damages or needed repairs.
  • Prepares requisitions for stock replacement.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.
  • Requires one year of experience in the keeping of stores and stores records.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefers one (1) year demonstrating professional organizational skills in the keeping of stores.
  • Prefers one (1) year of professional communication skills.
  • Prefers ability to make transportation arrangements.
  • Prefers ability to work closely with supervisors.
  • Prefers ability to maintain inventory records.
  • Prefers ability to maintain accurate records.
Conditions of Employment
  • Successful completion of a background investigation.
  • Requires valid Illinois driver’s license.
  • Ability to report to headquarters within 45 minutes in emergency situations.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform arduous labor, if required.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical as well as pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and subject to random drug and alcohol screenings.
  • Requires certification in forklift operation and warehouse safety training within 6 months of hire.
