Definition:
The Kindergarten Teacher provides learning experiences in language arts, social studies, reading, math, science, art, physical education, and music to students, guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards and requirements. The Kindergarten Teacher reports to the Principal, and may direct a Paraprofessional, if one is assigned to the classroom.

• Provides learning experiences across all subject areas as guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards and requirements, while creating an environment that is conducive to student learning and involvement.
• Monitors students' understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusts instruction, materials or assessments when appropriate.
• Evaluates, tries innovative approaches, and refines instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies available to teachers, to increase student learning, involvement and confidence to learn.
• Demonstrates appreciation for and sensitivity to the diversity among individuals and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning.
• Maintains and improves professional competence through attendance at professional development events, and by self-generated activities that meet district expectations and the requirements for licensure recertification.
• Shares responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her grade/team/department, building and school district, attending all faculty and committee meetings as required, and district-wide committees as needed.
• Any other relative teaching duties as assigned.

• Education and Experience: Master’s Degree preferred;
  Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Development is required with prior teaching experience, preferably in an elementary school setting; or any combination of education and work experience.
• Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Massachusetts Teaching License with certification at the Early Childhood K-2 level.
• Skills and Ability: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to the instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on district objectives and the needs and abilities of students; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; ability to work effectively with all staff at all levels of the school district; skills in oral and written communication is required.
