Position Summary:The Assistant Controller serves as the company's technical accounting resource and is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of the accounting function. This is a highly hands-on individual contributor role reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer.
The Assistant Controller leads the monthly close process, technical accounting, financial reporting, account reconciliations, audit support, accounting compliance, and accounting process improvement initiatives. The role provides technical leadership across the accounting organization, partnering closely with the Project Accountant, Inventory Clerk, Accounts Payable Specialist, Operations, Project Management, and executive leadership to ensure strong financial controls, accurate reporting, and scalable accounting processes.
The ideal candidate combines technical accounting expertise, accounting discipline, strong manufacturing and project accounting knowledge, advanced systems capabilities, and a proven track record of improving accounting processes while strengthening controls and increasing efficiency.
This role is particularly well suited for an experienced Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, Audit Manager, or Technical Accounting professional from a larger public or private enterprise environment who enjoys building scalable processes and maintaining hands-on involvement in the accounting function.
KeyJob Responsibilities:
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring timely, accurate, and GAAP-compliant financial reporting.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account analyses, financial schedules, and supporting work papers.
- Own the balance sheet reconciliation process, ensuring all accounts are reconciled, supported, and reviewed on a timely basis.
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies, unreconciled balances, and process control issues.
- Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements, management reporting packages, and ad hoc financial analyses for executive leadership.
- Maintain compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company accounting policies.
- Maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
- Support tax compliance activities and coordination with external tax advisors.
- Serve as the primary accounting contact for external auditors.
- Lead audit preparation activities, including audit schedules, supporting documentation, account analyses, control narratives, and resolution of audit inquiries.
- Ensure the accounting function maintains audit-ready supporting documentation and work papers throughout the year.
- Coordinate responses to external financial, tax, banking, and regulatory inquiries.
