This role requires stakeholder leadership, contract and budget control, and a focus on quality, safety and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the full project lifecycle for civil and underground utilities projects including planning, design coordination, procurement, construction management, commissioning and close-out.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts and risk registers; proactively identify and mitigate schedule, cost and technical risks.
  • Manage design review and coordination with multidisciplinary teams (civil, structural, mechanical, piping, environmental and geotechnical) to ensure constructability and compliance with project requirements.
  • Oversee subcontractor procurement, contract administration and performance management; prepare scopes of work, evaluate bids and enforce contract requirements.
  • Provide on-site leadership and supervision during construction activities, including daily coordination of sitework, excavation, trenching, tunnelling/boring (as applicable), shoring and process piping installation.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental policies and regulatory requirements; lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
  • Serve as primary client and stakeholder point of contact; lead project meetings, present status updates and manage expectations to achieve client satisfaction.
  • Implement quality control processes and inspections; ensure as-built documentation, testing and commissioning activities are completed and handed over to the client.
  • Mentor and coach junior project managers, engineers and field staff; build and maintain high-performing project teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned, optimizing construction methods and contributing to business development efforts and proposals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field; advanced degree or professional certifications (PMP, PE) preferred.
  • Minimum 12 years of progressive experience managing civil construction and underground utilities projects, with at least 4 years in a senior or lead project management role.
  • Demonstrated experience with underground utilities (UG utilities), sitework, infrastructure projects and civil construction methods including excavation, backfill, compaction and trench safety.
  • Hands-on experience with process piping coordination and installation, and working knowledge of piping codes and standards preferred.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen with experience managing project budgets, cost controls, change management and contract negotiations.
  • Proven leadership and communication skills with experience interfacing with clients, regulatory agencies, design teams and construction crews.
  • Working knowledge of construction management software (Primavera P6, MS Project, Procore or similar), CAD/BIM coordination tools and Microsoft Office suite.
