General Labor, Material Handler
Starting Pay: $22/hr with quarterly $0.50/hour step increases during first year, reaching $24/hr by year end.
Job PurposeMaintain the warehouse area, ensuring orderly stacking, good housekeeping, and correctly staged, checked, and loaded shipments. Provide material handling services for shipping and receiving activities, and ensure forklift walkie safety following all company policies. This position reports to the shift supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Properly receive, unload, move, and tag incoming parts and equipment.
- Use WMS (Warehouse Management Systems);
Knowledge of QMS (Quality Management Systems) and Lean Warehousing; operate material handling equipment and use an RF scanner. - Pull and stage parts for production and complete requisitions for parts shortages.
- Collect and properly package inventory and purchased items for shipment.
- Comply with company safety policies while using lifting devices (forklifts, scissor lifts) and meet clean initiative standards.
- Learn day‑to‑day warehouse operations.
- Verify orders are complete and accurate.
- Pick each customer order efficiently to minimize shipping costs while ensuring product safety.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor or manager.
- Possess a sense of urgency, accountability, and work with limited supervision.
- General understanding of computers and handheld RF equipment.
- Work as part of a team and demonstrate leadership.
- Read, write, and understand English.
- Pay attention to detail and maintain quality.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, resolve problems, and maintain people skills.
- Be flexible to work overtime and provide coverage to other shifts.
- PC skills helpful.
- Have major experience on sit‑down forklifts and walkies.
- Experience building pallets with stock and breaking down stock to fill independent orders.
- Experience in cross‑docking freight processes.
- Work in a fast‑paced warehouse.
- 2‑4 years in a warehouse environment.
- Good, stable work and attendance record.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Warehousing certifications a plus.
- Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and customers.
- Communicate, read, write, and speak English effectively.
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide; compute rates, ratios, and percentages; interpret bar graphs.
- Solve practical problems and deal with varied variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Determine root cause of problems and recommend corrective action.
- Knowledge of business operating systems, internet software, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
- Occasionally lift or move up to 60 pounds.
- Stand on feet for full shift (8 hours). Extend to continuous 8 hours when required.
- Maintain sound physical health; certified licensed physician must confirm no controlled substance use.
- Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles.
- Noise level ranges from quiet to moderately loud.
