Job Description

This position ensures the implementation of the State and Local adopted curriculum in support of the system’s mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaches at an appropriate instructional level.
  • Provides teacher-focused and student-focused content development.
  • Provides initial focus, content emphasis and linking, and lesson summaries.
  • Assesses and encourages student progress.
  • Monitors student progress.
  • Responds to adequate and inadequate student performances.
  • Supports students.
  • Handles non‑instructional tasks efficiently and uses instructional time appropriately.
  • Maintains effective physical setting for instruction.
  • Maintains appropriate student behavior in the classroom.
  • Follows professional practices consistent with school system, and state policies in working with students, student records, parents, and colleagues.
  • Interacts in a professional manner with staff, students, and parents.
  • Facilitates home‑school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communications.
  • Maintains confidentiality of students and student records.
  • Works cooperatively with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues, and parents.
  • Complies with school, system, and state administrative regulations and Board of Education policies.
  • Conducts assigned classes at the times scheduled.
  • Enforces regulations concerning student conduct and discipline.
  • Provides adequate information, plans, and materials for substitute teacher.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and appropriate records and files reports promptly.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and other assigned meetings and activities according to school policy.
  • Complies with conditions as stated in contract.
  • Demonstrates professional practices in teaching.
  • Models correct use of language, oral and written.
  • Demonstrates accurate and up‑to‑date knowledge of content.
  • Maintains lesson plans as required by school policy.
  • Assigns reasonable tasks and homework to students.
  • Acts in a professional manner and assumes responsibility for the total school program, its safety and good order.
  • Takes precautions to protect records, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Assumes responsibility for supervising students in out‑of‑class settings.
  • Maintains professional relationships.
  • Performs any other duties as requested by the Principal, Superintendent of Schools, and Board of Education.
Qualifications
  • Education and/or

    Experience:

    Must have a Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Education. Advanced degree a plus.
  • Certificate or License

    Required:

    Valid Georgia professional teaching certificate in the assigned teaching field.
  • Language

    Skills:

    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to students.
  • Mathematical

    Skills:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability:
    Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations; ability to apply sound educational principles to various classroom situations.
  • Technical Ability:
    Must have considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.
  • Customer Service

    Skills:

    Must be capable of interacting effectively with administrators, teachers, staff members, students, parents, and the general public using tactful and helpful customer service.
