We give our hygienists appointment times that match the patient in the chair, help on the days the column warrants it, and a doctor who reads the periodontal charting and backs the recommendation.

• Perform prophylaxis, scaling and root planing, and periodontal maintenance appropriate to each patient's diagnosis.
• Complete full periodontal charting and take radiographs on the recall interval.
• Screen for oral cancer, decay, and periodontal disease, and flag findings for the doctor.
• Educate patients on home care in a way that actually changes what they do at the sink.
• Apply fluoride and sealants, and administer local anesthetic where state law allows.
• Keep clinical notes complete and maintain sterilization standards.

• Active dental hygiene license in Ohio and current CPR/BLS certification.
• Local anesthesia certification where the state offers it.
• Thorough periodontal charting habits — we read them, and we treat from them.
• Gentle hands and the patience to bring a fearful patient back onto a schedule.
