Position: Substitute Teachers for 2026-2027 School Year

Substitute Teacher

Substitute teachers for the  school year. Substitute teachers are used on an as needed basis. Substitutes must hold a current Ohio teaching license or Ohio substitute license. Rate of pay - $120 - $130 per day based on Degree

Job Objectives:
Carries out the absent teacher's prepared lesson plan. During a prolonged absence as defined by board policy, the substitute is responsible for performing all essential functions identified in the absent teacher's job description.

Essential Functions:

  • Follows teacher's written lesson plans. Consults with the principal and/or staff to resolve questions and concerns.
  • Teaches scheduled classes. Prepares a written summary of work completed. Makes the absent teacher aware of special situations or problems encountered.
  • Implements effective pupil management procedures. Maintains high standards and upholds student conduct code.
  • Develops and maintains a positive learning environment. Stimulates student interest.
  • Varies instructional techniques to address individual learning styles.
  • Provides guidance, communicates high expectations, and shows active interest in student groups. Facilitates critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity skills.
  • Works cooperatively with other teachers.
  • Incorporates effective use of available technology in records management and instructional activities. Upholds district technology acceptable use policy.
  • Maintains accurate records and submits reports on time.
  • Takes the initiative to perform routine tasks independently.
  • Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures.
  • Understands and uses district crisis plan protocol to respond to emergencies.
  • Respects personal privacy. Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Participates in staff meetings and professional growth opportunities as directed.
  • Watch for student behavior that may indicate a problem (e.g. profanity, teasing, bullying, distress, etc.) Intervene and or report concerns to the administrator.
  • Reports evidence of suspected child abuse as required by law.
  • Accepts responsibility for decisions and conduct.
  • Wears appropriate work attire and maintains a neat appearance.
  • Conduct other duties related to the Substitute Teacher position as assigned by the Principal.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Ohio teaching or substitute license or certificate in appropriate licensure area
  • Documentation of a clear criminal record with evidence from BCI and FBI
  • Self-directed and able to learn quickly
  • Professional tact, diplomacy and presentation
  • Conscientious and assumes responsibility for own work performance.
  • Good health, high moral character and good attendance record.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and a sincere desire to aid all students

Working Conditions:

  • Duties may entail occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
  • Duties may require traveling to various buildings throughout the district.
  • Duties may require occasional interaction among unruly children.
  • Duties may require bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, standing, lifting, carrying and moving work related supplies/equipment.
  • Duties may require prolonged use of a computer keyboard and monitor.
  • Duties may require working under time constraints to meet deadlines.
  • Duties may require operating and or riding in a vehicle.
  • Potential for exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes.
  • The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
