Crossing Guard

Rossford Schools is seeking a dependable, safety-focused individual to serve as a Crossing Guard at Rossford Elementary School. This position plays an important role in ensuring the safe arrival and dismissal of elementary students while helping maintain a positive, welcoming school environment.

Schedule:

2 hours per day 8:00–9:00 a.m. 3:00–4:00 p.m.

Compensation:
Hourly rate in accordance with the negotiated agreement.

Position Overview

The Crossing Guard is responsible for assisting students in safely crossing streets and other designated areas before and after school. The successful candidate will provide a visible safety presence, monitor traffic and pedestrian conditions, and help ensure students arrive at and depart from school safely.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Safely assist students in crossing designated streets and traffic areas before and after school.
  • Monitor the assigned crossing location and identify potential safety hazards.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and positive environment for students.
  • Wear required safety equipment, including a crossing guard vest, and utilize crossing signs or other assigned equipment.
  • Establish positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.
  • Report unsafe conditions or incidents to the building administration.
  • Address minor student concerns appropriately and refer disciplinary issues to the principal or assistant principal.
  • Arrive promptly and remain at the assigned location until all students have safely crossed or until released.
  • Follow all district policies, procedures, and applicable traffic safety guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Candidates should possess:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • State aide permit (or ability to obtain one).
  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, and the public.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Dependability, sound judgment, and the ability to remain alert in changing traffic conditions.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR, or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Good health, strong attendance, and a demonstrated commitment to student safety.
