Job DescriptionRossford Schools is seeking a dependable, safety-focused individual to serve as a Crossing Guard at Rossford Elementary School. This position plays an important role in ensuring the safe arrival and dismissal of elementary students while helping maintain a positive, welcoming school environment.
Schedule: 2 hours per day – 8:00–9:00 a.m. and 3:00–4:00 p.m.
Compensation: Hourly rate in accordance with the negotiated agreement (approx $17.67 per hour).
Position OverviewThe Crossing Guard is responsible for assisting students in safely crossing streets and other designated areas before and after school. The successful candidate will provide a visible safety presence, monitor traffic and pedestrian conditions, and help ensure students arrive at and depart from school safely.
Essential Responsibilities- Safely assist students in crossing designated streets and traffic areas before and after school.
- Monitor the assigned crossing location and identify potential safety hazards.
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and positive environment for students.
- Wear required safety equipment, including a crossing guard vest, and utilize crossing signs or other assigned equipment.
- Establish positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.
- Report unsafe conditions or incidents to the building administration.
- Address minor student concerns appropriately and refer disciplinary issues to the principal or assistant principal.
- Arrive promptly and remain at the assigned location until all students have safely crossed or until released.
- Follow all district policies, procedures, and applicable traffic safety guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- State aide permit (or ability to obtain one).
- Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, and the public.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Dependability, sound judgment, and the ability to remain alert in changing traffic conditions.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR, or willingness to obtain certification.
- Good health, strong attendance, and a demonstrated commitment to student safety.
