Tool Stores Supervisor – Inventory & Materials Management
OverviewWe are seeking a Tool Stores Supervisor to oversee the management of non-production materials inventory within a manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for ensuring inventory accuracy, material availability, cost control, and compliance with operational and financial requirements. The position also provides leadership to a team across multiple shifts while collaborating with cross-functional departments to support plant operations and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities Inventory Management & Control- Manage non-production materials inventory to support operational requirements.
- Monitor inventory performance through regular reviews to improve inventory turns, reduce excess inventory, and minimize obsolete materials.
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies, negative balances, and transaction errors.
- Lead cycle counts, inventory audits, and inventory accuracy initiatives.
- Partner with maintenance and finance teams to identify and manage excess, slow-moving, or obsolete inventory.
- Review inventory requests, recurring purchases, and demand trends to support replenishment and spending controls.
- Process material transfers, shipments, receipts, and inventory transactions according to established procedures.
- Assist employees with creating and managing material requests.
- Support purchasing activities, including order management, follow-up, and supplier coordination.
- Provide support for inventory management systems and user access as needed.
- Review and validate supplier invoices for accuracy and timely processing.
- Manage supplier performance issues and coordinate corrective actions.
- Work with suppliers and service providers to resolve inventory, warranty, chemical management, and replenishment concerns.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team operating across multiple shifts.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Build positive working relationships within a union manufacturing environment.
- Support workplace organization, continuous improvement, and standardized work initiatives.
- Participate in cross-functional improvement activities to support operational objectives.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and employee engagement skills.
- Experience working in a union manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret inventory and operational data.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated adaptability, initiative, and willingness to learn new systems and processes.
- Commitment to safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
- Manufacturing experience preferred.
- Experience with ERP or inventory management systems preferred.
