Position: Maintenance Technician I

The Maintenance Technician I supports the Fed Ex Industrial Maintenance for material handling to complete preventative and predictive maintenance and repair of material handling systems. The role utilizes prescribed processes related to mechanical power transmission, electrical, PLC/_controls, welding/fabrication, and other industrial maintenance systems. The technician may troubleshoot component and system issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provides basic preventative and predictive maintenance and repair of material handling systems primarily mechanical power transmission and works to build stronger skills in electrical, PLC/controls, and welding/fabrication.
  • Diagnoses simple mechanical power transmission issues visually or audibly apparent at the single component level.
  • Adheres to all applicable safety standards and promotes a safe work environment by attending safety meetings, completing required trainings, and addressing all safety concerns.
  • Requires assistance or supervision in preventative or corrective maintenance tasks.
  • Participates in smaller scope projects.
  • Works a flexible schedule including all days and shifts as business needs dictate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Examples of what you can expect to learn in the Maintenance Tech I level (does not include all areas/responsibilities). Mechanical
  • Identifies a failed bearing or gearbox on a single convey and successfully repairs it.
  • Laces and tracks a conveyor belt.
  • Familiar with mechanical drawings and manufacturer’s manuals.
Electrical
  • Uses a digital multimeter on AC/DC voltage and continuity settings to identify a failed or stuck relay or contactor.
  • Identifies and replaces a failed photo eye.
  • Familiar with electrical drawings, schematics, and manufacturer’s manuals.
PLC/Controls
  • Identifies PLC components.
Welding or Fabrication
  • Performs MIG or stick welding.
MINIMUM EDUCATION
  • High School Diploma or GED required with minimum skill requirements.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
  • Demonstrated basic mechanical aptitude through background or hobbies in agriculture, automotive or other technical areas.
  • In lieu of demonstrated mechanical aptitude, two (2) years of Fed Ex Operations Sortation equipment knowledge will be considered or current enrollment in a certificate or degree program for Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics or related discipline.
  • Related military technical experience and electrical or mechanical trade experience will be considered.
KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Possesses basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Has basic electrical and mechanical skills.
  • Can solve basic mechanical or electrical problems, including understanding basic engineering formulas.
  • Diagnoses simple mechanical power transmission issues visually or audibly apparent at the single component level.
  • Communicates effectively within own department and with external vendors to convey basic technical data and needs.
  • Follows detailed instructions.
  • Has software skills, including Microsoft Office suite and other web-based applications.
  • Has time management and organizational skills.
JOB CONDITIONS
  • Uses hand tools and possibly power tools.
  • May work in hot or cold temperatures.
  • May need to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and squat.
Preferred Qualifications

The desired location for this position would be Perrysburg, OH. Employees will be required to work at the Fed Ex location five days a week.

Pay Transparency

$20.35–34.50 based on experience and maintenance level. Maintenance level is adjusted based on experience.

Additional Details

Wednesday–Saturday, 40‑hour position. 8 pm–6:30 am.
