The Mechatronics & Robotics Technician (Maintenance Technician II) supports the Operations Maintenance team by installing, maintaining, and repairing material handling equipment, automated packaging and distribution systems, and pneumatic systems throughout a large, highly automated facility. This role focuses on ensuring maximum uptime of conveyors, robotics, and other material handling equipment by performing preventative and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and accurately documenting work in a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
The technician works with a growing fleet of robots and extensive conveyor systems, contributing directly to safe, efficient, and reliable operations.
Responsibilities:
- Install, inspect, repair, and maintain material handling equipment such as conveyors, sorters, and related systems.
- Install, maintain, and repair automated packaging and distribution equipment to ensure consistent and reliable operation.
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance routines on material handling equipment, robotics, and pneumatic systems, following established documentation and procedures.
- Complete and maintain accurate preventative maintenance (PM) documentation, including PM sheets and service records.
- Perform battery changes and conduct preventive maintenance on equipment batteries to support continuous operations.
- Enter equipment downtime data in a daily log and ensure all maintenance activities are properly recorded.
- Manage, update, and close work orders within a CMMS, ensuring all tasks are documented and prioritized appropriately.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with material handling equipment, including mechanical, electrical, and control system problems, within defined safety and escalation procedures.
- Apply basic electrical knowledge to identify and address component-level issues, escalating 480V issues to external contractors after initial troubleshooting.
- Support and maintain pneumatic systems associated with material handling and automation equipment.
- Track, organize, and store department inventory, including spare parts and consumables, to ensure availability of critical components.
- Mentor junior technicians by providing guidance on troubleshooting techniques, maintenance best practices, and safe work procedures.
- Contribute to maintenance supervision activities by helping prioritize tasks, communicating status updates, and coordinating with operations teams.
- Support risk management efforts by following and promoting safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and safe work practices at all times.
- Utilize maintenance management, automation, and control system knowledge to improve equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
- Use data analysis and CMMS reports to identify recurring issues, plan maintenance activities, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical documentation to perform accurate repairs and installations.
- Demonstrate and reinforce safety standards during all maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with facility safety policies.
- Work a flexible schedule, including weekends, nights, and holidays, to support 24/7 operations and maintenance coverage in a large-scale facility with extensive conveyor and robotic systems.
Essential
Skills:
- 2+ years of experience conducting predictive and preventative maintenance procedures on industrial or material handling equipment.
- 2+ years of experience repairing material handling equipment (MHE), automated conveyor systems, or robotics.
- 1+ years of experience troubleshooting and diagnosing material handling equipment (MHE).
- 2+ years of experience reading blueprints and electrical schematics.
- 2+ years of experience demonstrating and adhering to safety standards in an industrial or maintenance environment.
- 1+ years of experience working with computers and Microsoft Office products and applications.
- Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage work orders and maintenance records.
- Hands-on experience with conveyor maintenance, material handling equipment, sorters, and robotics.
- Practical knowledge of basic electrical components and electrical troubleshooting, with the ability to perform initial diagnostics before escalation.
- Experience with automation and control systems in an industrial or distribution environment.
- Ability to perform mechanical troubleshooting and repairs on complex equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
- Ability to follow detailed maintenance procedures and accurately document work performed.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to established safety standards.
