Pharmacy Customer Service Associate

Overview

Maintain a customer-focused role in a pharmacy-driven retail environment, delivering a distinctive and delightful customer experience while supporting pharmacy operations under supervision.

• Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
• Register sales on the assigned cash register and provide courteous, fair, friendly, and efficient checkout service.
• Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy; use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services; resolve customer issues to ensure a positive experience.
• Model and share customer service best practices with team members to deliver outstanding service, including interpersonal habits (greeting, eye contact, courtesy) and Walgreens service traits (proactive help, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied).
• Provide customer service in person and in the photo area, including digital passport photo service and promotional photo products.
• Assist with store operations including inventory management, stocking, merchandising, pricing, and display maintenance.
• Process customer transactions, including returns, exchanges, refunds, rain checks, and voids; assist customers in locating products and guide them to the OTC aisle when needed.
• Enter patient and drug information in pharmacy systems, ensure accuracy, and assist in filling prescriptions by counting and pouring medications; check for possible interactions.
• Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and comply with company policies related to pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
• Adhere to the company Code of Conduct and policies, including Good Faith Dispensing where applicable.
• Handle calls not requiring the pharmacist’s direct attention and assist with third-party claim processing (including corrections and resubmissions) and other clerical duties as assigned.
• Support Pharmacy Department on inventory management activities, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments; protect company assets and file claims for discrepancies (overages, shortages, order errors, damaged Rx drugs).
• Comply with state and local laws regarding regulated products (e.g., alcoholic beverages and tobacco).
• Assist with separation of food items and product placement per policy; support stock rotation using the first-in, first-out method and manage restock shortages.
• Maintain knowledge of store systems and equipment; uphold a clean and orderly store appearance; support exterior and interior maintenance as needed.

• Earns and maintains PTCB certification through the designated program and/or state-required certification/registration.
• Attends trainings and completes PPLs requested by Manager or corporate, and maintains knowledge of healthcare and pharmacy developments.

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

• Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Prefer good math skills for accurate prescription filling, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
• Prefer good computer skills.
• Prefer knowledge of store inventory control and PTCB certification.

Salary Range: $16.92 - $19 / Hourly
