Are you passionate about teaching swimming and promoting a safe, positive environment? The Raritan Bay Area YMCA is looking for a dedicated Swim Instructor to join our aquatics team! This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic urban, growing organization, just 5 miles west of New York City in the waterfront city of Perth Amboy, NJ. The Raritan Bay Area YMCA has served the ever-evolving needs of our community since 1912.

We enthusiastically serve over 6,000 members in the Raritan Bay area in our community building initiatives through Healthy Living, Youth Development, and Social Responsibility. As a Swim Instructor
, you will play a crucial role in advancing our mission, collaborating with colleagues, and contributing to operational effectiveness while pursuing your own personal growth. Under the supervision of the Recreation and Sports Program Manager, the Swim Instructor will follow the YMCA Swim Lesson Program guidelines, ensuring all participants have a fun and secure learning experience.

Our YMCA facility features a dynamic Aquatics Center that includes a competitive pool, a recreation pool, a hot tub area, and a state‑of‑the‑art viewing gallery which attracts area swim teams for large meets.

• Instruct swimming lessons as assigned, preparing engaging lesson plans.
• Build positive relationships with members and participants, providing motivational support.
• Encourage involvement from members and parents, identifying potential volunteers.
• Supervise students consistently, ensuring their safety and providing assistance as needed.
• Share information about our aquatics programs and schedules, referring participants to other offerings as appropriate.
• Maintain accurate records (attendance, progress reports, etc.).
• Adhere to all YMCA policies and emergency procedures, completing incident reports when necessary.
• Arrive on time, in proper uniform/equipment, ready for each shift.
• Attend scheduled staff meetings and training sessions.
• Organize and maintain class equipment, reporting any damages.
  
  Train and supervise class aides as needed.

Experience: Previous experience teaching swim lessons to both adults and children.

• High School Diploma
• Current Red Cross CPR/AED certification
• Current Red Cross First Aid certification
• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification or equivalent

• Ability to teach and develop swimming skills.
• Proficient in instructing and observing proper stroke techniques.
• Capable of lifting equipment and assisting children of varying sizes.
• Energetic, enthusiastic, and able to work independently.
• Strong interpersonal skills to positively engage with the public.
