Involvement in the Winter Maintenance RotaBEAR Scotland is a leading provider of highway maintenance services across Scotland.  We manage and maintain over 2,000km of Scotland’s trunk road network, tackling just about every imaginable task and working round the clock to help keep Scotland moving.

The North West Trunk Road Unit spans some 1,422km of trunk road through some of the most scenic parts of the country.  It covers a huge area of Scotland, from Thurso and Wick in the very north of the Highlands down to Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute, from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling.

We are looking for enthusiastic Individuals to join our ever expanding Vehicle Restraint System squad carrying out repairs to damaged systems and Installing new upgraded VRS Systems. As this is an ever expanding team all levels of experience shall be considered and full training available also.

The Installation Operative, reporting into the Special Projects Manager, should be an experienced road worker with the necessary skills to carry out various road maintenance operations, training can be provided if necessary. Ideally you should have, as a minimum, an LGV Class 2 Licence (HGV2), NHSS 12D, Excavator below 10T, Lorry Loader and slinger signaller.

This is a full time role and a driving licence is essential.

Role includes:

The erection and removal of temporary and permanent crash barriers, as well as traffic management signs

Installation and fixing of temporary/permanent road furniture

Operation of power tools, small plant and machinery

Driving vehicles including those with simple attachments such as tractors

Provide support for specialist VRS team members

Responsibility for the health and safety of the public, colleagues and yourself

Participating in standby and winter maintenance rota Winter maintenance duties which include fitting gritter body and blade, driving gritter and spread salt by hand if required

Knowledge,

Skills and Experience:

Experience as a Road worker with the skills to undertake a range of road maintenance operations

Flexibility for shift work There is a requirement to undertake training and to achieve competence in aspects of the current job as well as preparing oneself to progress to the next level of job Ideally hold the following (as a minimum) – LGV Class 2 Licence (HGV2) / NHSS 12/ Excavator (below 10 tonnes) / Lorry Loader/ Slinger/Signaller Achievement of the H&S CLSA 34X and CITB H&S touch screen tests

Experience of using small plant

Holding tickets for plant, traffic management, Health & Safety, an advantage

Valid UK Driving Licence –Flexibility for shift work
