Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Epsilyte, located in Peru, Illinois, is a leading manufacturer of expandable polystyrene resin (EPS), an advanced material for building insulation, cold-chain packaging, and personal safety equipment.
Position OverviewThe Maintenance Supervisor drives the success of the site maintenance and reliability program by effectively supervising six mechanics and four electricians, assigning planned work tasks, and recognizing and implementing improvements for the facility. In this role, you must be comfortable with leading daily meetings with the maintenance team, managing contractors, reporting daily on maintenance activities, driving safety culture, and working with all members of operations leadership to complete daily tasks and projects.
The ideal candidate is self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and an excellent communicator.
- Supervise, direct, coach, plan, and assign work to ten dayshift maintenance technicians
- Ensure maintenance technicians have appropriate resources to complete their tasks in a safe and timely manner
- Review maintenance work orders from the planner, delegate the work to the maintenance staff, and follow up to ensure work orders are completed safely, timely, and accurately
- Communicate with the maintenance planner on work order status and execute with a high sense of urgency
- Coordinate and oversee outside contractors for maintenance projects or emergency repairs
- Follow up on assigned work to confirm proper completion of work and documentation
- Conduct root cause analysis and safety investigations as required
- Provide feedback to the Operations Team on planned work and recommend improvements to achieve reliability targets
- Ensure compliance with all Company and Environmental, Health, and Safety policies
- Be a role model for and advance the Epsilyte Life Critical Safety Rules and Code of Conduct
- Coach and mentor your team. Plan, assign, and direct work. Provide training. Evaluate employee job performance, recognizing individual and team performance
- Schedule & approve timekeeping for maintenance technicians, including review of vacation requests & maintaining an accurate vacation calendar

- Educational Background:
Technical certificate in Industrial Maintenance and/or associate degree - Experience:
At least 3 years of industrial maintenance experience is required. Previous supervisor experience, preferably with a represented workforce - Technical Knowledge:
Familiarity with industrial maintenance techniques - Safety Focus: A solid understanding of maintenance, engineering and safety practices

Skills:
Ability to coordinate, train, and motivate hourly employees and contractors - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must have basic mathematical and problem‑solving skills to generate and maintain departmental reports
- Project Management:
Competence in estimating, planning, and scheduling work orders while managing budgets and costs - Team Player: A collaborative spirit to support maintenance teams and work well with colleagues
- Basic PC skills are required, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite strongly preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering is preferred, but we welcome candidates with relevant trades experience (millwright, electrician, etc.)
- Working knowledge of chemical plant production and processing equipment
- 5+ years of Mechanical Maintenance experience in an industrial manufacturing facility
- Knowledge of NFPA 70E Arc Flash program and OSHA regulations and standards
- Working knowledge of the following:
Reading blueprints, mechanical systems, HVAC and boilers, PLCs, basic and high voltage electrical systems - Knowledge and skills in the technologies of general construction, electrical systems, electronic systems, microprocessors, mechanical systems (e.g., production/process, refrigeration, boilers, HVAC, hydraulics, and pneumatics), and computerized maintenance management systems
