Schedule / Job TypeContract | Night Shift | 12-Hour Shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | 3 weekends per 6-week schedule | Holiday rotation required
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct nursing care to low- and high-risk OB patients and stable newborns at or above 36 weeks gestation in a Level 1 perinatal/nursery designated unit
- Perform newborn stabilization and serve as circulator for cesarean sections
- Titrate drips including Pitocin and Magnesium per unit protocols
- Monitor and interpret fetal heart rate (FHR) strips using Philips fetal monitoring, EPIC, OBIX, and Peri-gen 24/7 fetal surveillance system
- Float as needed (0–3 shifts per week) to other units in a helping hands RN, sitter, or patient care technician capacity; no floating to inpatient Behavioral Health
- Collaborate with on-call OB physicians, Newborn Peds physician, OB techs, charge nurses, and house supervisors to ensure safe patient outcomes
- Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required
- ACLS certification required
- BLS certification required
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) certification required
- Must comply with a drug-free campus policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels
- Must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible at the standard rate
- Experience with newborn stabilization techniques and respiratory support equipment (Neopuff, heated high-flow nasal cannula, CPAP for newborns)
- Familiarity with Pitocin and Magnesium drip titration in a Labor & Delivery setting
- Prior experience working in a unit following AWHONN staffing guidelines
- Comfort with floating across OB, ICU, Med/Surg, and ED environments
- Work in a well-supported OB unit with central fetal monitoring, 24/7 Peri-gen surveillance, charge nurse and house supervisor coverage every shift, and a collaborative care team including OB techs and on-call physicians
- Benefit from a clearly defined call-off policy providing the equivalent of 12 hours every 13 weeks with no penalty
