The Sr Manager, OEM Engineering leads GCX's OEM Engineering organization and serves as the technical leader for strategic OEM pursuits. This position combines engineering leadership, customer engagement, and hands-on product development to accelerate OEM business growth. The role is accountable for rapidly evaluating customer opportunities, developing innovative system concepts, assessing technical feasibility with limited information, and providing credible project scope, engineering assumptions, resource requirements, development timelines, and technical risk assessments that support competitive quotations under compressed customer bid schedules.
The Senior Manager coaches and develops a high-performing engineering team while remaining an active individual contributor on GCX's technically challenging OEM programs.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the OEM Engineering team while building a culture of technical excellence, urgency, innovation, and accountability.
- Own the technical strategy and engineering execution for OEM opportunities from concept through commercialization.
- Serve as Engineering's primary technical interface for strategic OEM customers and lead technical discussions, design reviews, and solution presentations.
- Rapidly evaluate new customer opportunities and define practical system architectures, technical approaches, engineering assumptions, and project strategies with minimal customer input.
- Provide timely scope definitions, feasibility assessments, technical risk evaluations, resource estimates, and development schedules that enable Commercial to respond quickly to competitive bid opportunities.
- Personally develop rapid design concepts, proof-of-concept prototypes, engineering calculations, and preliminary layouts for high-priority opportunities.
- Coach engineers in rapid concept development, engineering judgment, customer communication, and structured problem solving.
- Partner with Commercial, PMO, Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, and Regulatory to ensure technically sound, manufacturable, and commercially successful solutions.
- Drive reusable platform strategies, modular product architectures, design standardization, value engineering, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with GCX Product Development Process, Quality Management System, ISO 13485, IEC 60601, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Lead technical pursuit strategy for major OEM business opportunities.
- Balance speed with sound engineering judgment and disciplined risk management.
- Influence bid/no-bid decisions through objective technical and commercial assessments.
- Develop future technical leaders through coaching, mentoring, and succession planning.
- Build long-term customer confidence through responsiveness, credibility, and execution.
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; M.S. preferred. Electrical/Mechanical experience a plus
- 20+ years of new product development experience; 10+ years of engineering leadership.
- Proven ability to evaluate complex technical opportunities rapidly and produce accurate preliminary scope, schedules, and resource estimates with incomplete information.
- Demonstrated success supporting OEM customers through proposal development, competitive quotations, and new business pursuits.
- Proven track record of delivering a portfolio of OEM products from concept through commercialization
- Expertise in mechanical design, systems engineering, FEA, GD&T, DFM/DFA, rapid prototyping, and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency with Creo, Solid Works, Windchill, and Microsoft 365.
- Knowledge of ISO 13485, IEC 60601, and regulated product development.
