Engineering Development Technician III

The Engineering Development Technician III will work on advanced unmanned systems to develop solutions for defense and commercial applications. Responsibilities include contributing to the development, build, integration, and maintenance of these systems.

• Conduct mechanical, electrical, and composite fabrication support, troubleshoot, repair, and test integrated systems.
• Operate and maintain shop equipment and tools—hand tools, power tools, solder irons, manual lathes and mills, 3D printers, etc.
• Meet scheduled timelines and, when necessary, aggressive deadlines to have hardware ready for project milestones.
• Attend project meetings to discuss schedule, design, hardware status, and other critical information.
• Document processes and build techniques to ensure readiness of equipment and smooth transition of responsibilities.
• Build low‑volume assemblies in the prototype phase of the product lifecycle.
• Maintain safe, clean, and well‑organized laboratory and machine shop areas and equipment for efficient engineering work.

• High school diploma or GED, or equivalent technical school certificate.
• Five or more years of technical experience in machining, composites, rapid prototyping, or electronics.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
• Experience with aircraft or remote control systems.
• Knowledge and use of machine shop tools, construction of fixtures, tools, parts, or electrical devices.
• Experience with build/assembly documentation development.
• In‑depth knowledge in at least one area: fabrication, composites, mechanics, or electronics; including repair and testing.
• Strong safety awareness and adherence to work‑place safety guidelines.
• Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and willingness to travel locally or domestically by driving or flying to test sites.
• Ability to work irregular hours, including late evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
• Optional:
  Higher education, welding certifications, 3D modeling or programming experience (e.g., Solid Works, SURFCAM), additive manufacturing experience, composites handling, GD&T skills, and strong communication and problem‑solving abilities.

Manual dexterity and use of machining tools, soldering equipment, lifting up to 50 pounds, and repeated movement or carrying of heavy equipment. Work often involves standing, sitting, talking, and operating hands to use computers or keyboards. Work in a manufacturing environment and meet California respirator regulations.

U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required. No security clearance is required, but the role involves ITAR‑controlled information.

Salary range: $27,000 to $41,000 per year.
