Part Time Recreation Leader/Senior Recreation Leader (Summer Camps)

The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking enthusiastic Recreation Leaders to staff its annual summer camp program, Camp‑A‑Luma serving campers ages 4‑12. Successful candidates will be hired at the Recreation Leader ($20.97/hour) or Senior Recreation Leader ($23.09/hour) level, dependent on their qualifications and experience.

Recreation Leaders work from the end of May through mid‑August, 25‑40 hours per week. Summer camps occur while school is not in session, providing a great summer job opportunity for those in high school. All Recreation Leaders will be trained and certified onsite in CPR and First Aid prior to the start of all camps.

This recruitment will remain open until filled and may close at any time. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis, with the first round tentatively scheduled for mid‑March. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply early for first consideration.

• Plan, organize, and facilitate youth activities and recreational programs.
• Plan and organize special activities and events.
• Distribute and maintain equipment.
• Maintain discipline and enforce department policy.
• Open and close facility space.
• Ensure the safety of recreation center patrons; administer first aid.
• Supervise the use of and ensure the security of the facility.
• Provide information to the public; assist in the preparation of reports.
• Perform general custodial work and other duties as assigned.
• Render first aid when necessary and keep records.
• Maintain order and control at camp.
• Promote teamwork and provide opportunities for personal growth and group spirit.
• For Senior Recreation Leaders: directly supervise Recreation staff.

• Strong initiative, effective communication skills, energetic personality, patience with children, and creativity in the activities offered during camp programs.
• Some experience working with children.
• Successfully pass a city‑mandated background check.
• Certified in First Aid and CPR by the start of camp (training will be provided).
• Be 18 years of age or have obtained a work permit through the school system.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Positions require the employee to be exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level is moderate to loud.
