The Permit Coordinator provides administrative and technical support to the Building Division throughout the permitting process. This role is responsible for receiving and reviewing building permit applications, ensuring documentation is complete, and supporting Plans Examiners through research and client communication. The Permit Coordinator also manages the archive of ICI permit drawings, assists applicants with inquiries, and provides quality customer service to support efficient and accurate permit processing.
QualificationsEducation & Training
- College diploma in Office Administration, Legal Administration, or a related field.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and building permit application process.
- Familiarity with the Ontario Fire Code and local development policies (asset).
Experience
- Up to one year of related experience, ideally in construction, planning, or municipal permitting.
- Experience providing administrative and technical support in a customer service environment.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong research and document review skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage records, archives, and tracking systems.
Interpersonal & Communication Skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong focus on customer service with the ability to handle inquiries professionally.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, applicants, and external stakeholders.
- Strong organization and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Problem-solving skills with sound judgment within established policies and procedures.
- Adaptability when working with competing demands and occasional difficult interactions.
