With over 500 workers across locations in Peterborough, Toronto, and Arnprior, BWXT NEC supplies nuclear fuel and fuel channel components, services, equipment and parts for the CANDU® nuclear power industry.

We are looking for a Senior Buyer for our Peterborough, Ontario site. BWXT NEC's Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions group is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing, parts supply, and service of on‑power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tooling sold around the world.

This position is onsite in Peterborough, Ontario.

Your Day To Day

Commodities & Services Purchasing:

  • Purchase assigned commodities and services.
  • Obtain vendor quotations for materials, equipment, services, etc.
  • Review and analyze quote to ensure clarity and accuracy of technical and commercial items.

Source Qualified Suppliers:

  • Visit with suppliers to stay current with vendor capabilities.
  • Investigate new manufacturing applications and interface with vendor’s senior management personnel.
  • Develop strategic product/commodity procurement and develop new vendors, considering all business factors including technical, market, commercial, scheduling and quality factors.

Contract Administration:

  • Provide ongoing purchasing contract administration including revision management, schedule maintenance, warranty claim resolution, quality and commercial discrepancy settlement, etc., as required during the life of a contract.
  • Lead multi‑functional teams in complex negotiations.

Corrective Action:

  • Provide supplier corrective action resolutions, supplier quality improvement and vendor claim cost recovery.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Develop rapport with engineering, legal, manufacturing and project management personnel in order to maximize supply chain management effectiveness.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects.
  • Train/mentor other members within supply management.

Cost Reduction:

  • Perform value analysis including participation and organization of cost savings initiatives.

Compliance:

  • Understand and ensure compliance with applicable external codes, regulations and guidelines as well as internal standards set by BWXT.
  • Lead and support complex supply chain projects to enhance risk mitigation, sustainability, and business improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee new supplier identification and qualification, addressing issues collaboratively with relevant stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement strategies, processes and tools to increase efficiency and effectiveness in procurement and supply chain operations.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or engineering (preferred).
  • 10 or more years’ experience in supply management.
  • CPP enrollment (preferred).
  • Supplier relationship development, negotiation skills, excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to lead teams.
  • Project management experience.
  • Significant product knowledge and understanding of BWXT Canada Ltd.’s business processes.
  • Proficient in most business‑related software applications.
  • Knowledge of department procedures and QAM/QPM.
  • Significant capability about risk management and quality tools.
