Special Education Paraprofessional - Con Val High School

Position Title: Intensive Learning Support (ILS) Paraprofessional, Special Education

Supervisor: Principal and Special Education Administrator

Reports To: Special Education Teacher/Case Manager, Classroom Teacher

Pay Range: $18.25 - $26.25 per hour

Position Type: Full-time

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Para educator I or Para educator II Certification is required
  • Prefer experience working with students who have varied strengths, abilities, and needs
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Positive, cooperative approach to problem solving
  • Motivated to work collaboratively with team members
  • Knowledge of basic skills of operating systems of computers and assistive technology
  • Demonstrate organizational skills
Summary

The Paraprofessional will assist, support, and work under the direction and close supervision of teachers, administrators, and other team members in providing educational benefit for students. The Paraprofessional will implement, NOT DEVELOP, lesson plans provided by Special Education Teacher/Case Manager, Classroom Teacher, Speech Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Psychologist, and Consultants. Paraprofessionals work under the close supervision of a member or members of the instructional or administrative staff at all times.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Read, understand, and implement Individual Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives as directed by Special Education Teacher/Case Manager and other allied professionals.
  • Facilitate participation of students in accessing the general curriculum.
  • Gather, collect, and record data on data sheets related to IEP goals; share information, observations, and insights with team members.
  • Support and implement the school’s values and practices regarding instructional strategies, expectations for peer behavior, peer interaction, and inclusion.
  • Inform Special Education Case Manager, Classroom Teacher, and other district staff of student progress.
  • Attend, participate, and integrate information learned in weekly Paraprofessional meetings and Special Education team meetings/conferences into classroom as directed.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all student information.
  • Prepare educational materials as directed by Special Education Teacher/Case Manager, Classroom Teacher, Occupational Therapist, Speech Language Therapist, Physical Therapist, Psychologist, and Consultants.
  • Create substitute paraprofessional plans.
  • Prepare Medicaid paperwork.
  • Attend workshops and trainings as needed.
  • Carry over learned behaviors and skills, including the use of assistive technology, throughout the daily schedule as recommended by the Special Education/Case Manager, Classroom Teacher, and related service personnel.
  • Work with students as assigned by administrator; solve practical and clinical problems using learned techniques and skills within the district’s policies.
  • Make independent judgments within the scope of respective job duties.
  • Apply knowledge of punctuation, formatting, spelling, and grammatical skills to reporting functions if needed.
  • Interact well with staff, supervisors, students, and parents.
  • Adapt to performing under minimal stress in the event of an emergency or crisis.
  • Perform school responsibilities as appropriate and/or assigned.
  • Provide any other assistance to students, directly related to the position as assigned by Special Education Teacher, Classroom Teacher, and Administration.
