Job Description

New Hampshire Public Schools – School Administrative Unit #1, Contoocook Valley School District. The objective of the High School Music Teacher is to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through the implementation of district‑approved curricula, documentation of instruction, and the provision of feedback to students, parents, and administration.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and administer school curriculum consistent with district initiatives, goals, and objectives.
  • Promote a safe, student‑centered classroom environment that supports individualized and small‑group instruction.
  • Plan and deliver music lessons, combining listening, instrumental performance, and repertoire selection across diverse musical genres and periods.
  • Coordinate rehearsals, direct student performances, and manage musical programs beyond the classroom.
  • Maintain inventory records of instruments and supplies, ensuring equipment is in good working order.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning, adapt instruction to meet individual and special‑needs students, and report status as required by district procedures.
  • Implement IEP and 504 plans and ensure effective communication with parents.
  • Enforce school and district policies regarding student conduct, establishing expectations for behavior.
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers to evaluate and refine curriculum and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Supervise students during non‑classroom activities, including transportation-related events.
  • Administer standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
  • Engage in professional development by attending workshops, seminars, or conducting research to stay current in education.
  • Perform related tasks assigned by the Principal and central office administrators.
Qualifications
  • New Hampshire DOE Teaching Certification.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Music Education or a related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • Master's degree in a related area preferred.
  • One to three years of prior teaching experience at the high‑school level preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, with the ability to differentiate instruction based on student learning styles.
  • Familiarity with high‑school curriculum, data analysis, and formulation of action plans.
  • Understanding of applicable federal and state education laws.
  • Proficiency with computer network systems and software applications.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, including effective collaboration with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to self‑evaluation and professional growth.
