Job Description

The Unit Manager for Purchasing is responsible for managing all aspects of the supply chain, the buying team and vendors. This role will serve as the key link between suppliers, forecasting, project, managers, warehouse and sales team. The Unit Manager will manage multiple suppliers and will need to evaluate and ensure all purchasing requirements are being met to serve customers in a timely manner.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee Purchasing staff including scheduling, task assignment, performance and attendance management, conflict resolution, training, professional development and succession planning.
  • Oversight in all aspects of the following:
    Expense Stock Room, Raw Material Inventory, Stockroom Clerks, Sourcing.
  • Research and evaluate suppliers that meet NHBB requirements; identify qualified suppliers and negotiate best price for products/services; request bids from new suppliers as needed.
  • Review requisitions to ensure that the request is valid and meets requirements; review reports against open/closed POs and reconcile for accuracy; check accuracy of requests against specifications.
  • Maintain accurate tracking systems, ensuring that information is current; provide production staff with status reports of material usage as requested; maintain purchasing records per the company’s procedures and requirements.
  • Identify and procure items under responsibility for the production needs based on established inventory goals and forecast; ensure availability of components and materials to support production process and resolve any timeliness or quality issues with suppliers.
  • Enter, expedite and track Purchase Orders with suppliers to ensure deliveries, blanket orders, vendor managed inventory, etc. are in alignment with production requirements.
  • Maintain strong communication with suppliers and production supervisors to assure timely delivery of materials; ensure materials flow smoothly through the facility once received, and that quality and other requirements are maintained on the materials during handling.
  • Assist in eliminating non‑value‑added steps throughout the value system and maintain a focus on continuous improvement.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or closely related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ purchasing leadership experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • APICS certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
  • Able to travel as needed.
