Location:

HMP Cardiff, Knox Rd, Cardiff CF24 0UG

Hours:

39 per week Monday-Thursday: 07:30 - 16:30 Friday: 07:30 - 15:30 1 in 3 weekends (15% uplift shift allowance) A fantastic opportunity has become available for an experienced Electrician to join the on?site facilities team at HMP Cardiff. This role is essential in ensuring that all planned and reactive maintenance work within the prison is completed safely, efficiently, and to compliance standards.

About the Role The Electrician will be responsible for maintaining electrical systems across the site, responding to breakdowns, and ensuring all installations and maintenance activities meet the required regulations. Previous experience with planned preventative maintenance is preferred, but not essential. While a Level 3 qualification is ideal, candidates with Level 2 experience will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities Uphold Health & Safety standards across the site Test and inspect electrical installations in line with current IEE wiring regulations Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns and faults Carry out planned and preventative electrical maintenance Diagnose and replace failed domestic electrical components Fault?find and problem?solve on domestic electrical systems Undertake installation work according to technical designs and IET Wiring Regulations Monitor, manage, and order critical electrical spares Support sustainability and zero?carbon

initiatives Assist with additional duties as required by the line manager Requirements City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation (or equivalent) BS7671 18th Edition (17th Edition applicants considered if willing to upskill) Strong understanding of Health & Safety and maintenance processes Ability to work independently and manage time effectively Experience working under pressure and to deadlines Comfortable working at heights Basic IT skills Understanding of fire alarms and CCTV systems is desirable Knowledge of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations Additional Information Applicants must be able to obtain Prison Security Clearance (support will be provided).
