Contract: Full Time, Permanent
Salary: up to £34,000 per annum, plus company van & fuel card
Hours: 42.5 hours per week (8-5 Monday‑Friday)
Location: Peterhead
Mears provides temporary accommodation to asylum seekers whilst their claim is being assessed across three regions:
Northeast, Yorkshire and Humber, Northern Ireland, and Scotland. At the end of May 2021 Mears had over 19,000 service users. Mears works in partnership with central and local government, registered providers, tenants, landlords and investors to find solutions to homelessness and create specialist housing for people with care needs.
- Carry out day‑to‑day responsive repairs across occupied properties
- Replace or repair skirting boards, architraves and internal door frames
- Install and adjust kitchen units, worktops and cupboard doors
- Repair or replace internal doors, handles, locks and hinges
- Identify and fix minor plumbing issues such as leaks, dripping taps and blocked sinks
- Carry out patch plastering and make good damaged walls or ceilings
- Complete wall and floor tiling repairs, including grouting and sealing
- Paint and decorate to a professional finish following repair works
- Ensure all repairs are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard
- Work in occupied properties with sensitivity to residents’ needs and privacy
- Participate in out‑of‑hours emergency repair rota as required
- Report any further works, safeguarding concerns or property issues beyond scope
- Deliver excellent customer service while working in residents’ homes
- Accurately record job details, materials used and completion notes using handheld devices or job sheets
- Maintain tools, equipment and company vehicle in good working order
- Manage daily workload efficiently to meet service level targets
- Proven experience in repairs and maintenance across multiple trades (carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling, decorating)
- Full UK driving licence
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
- Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent customer service skills, with experience working in occupied homes
- Good understanding of health and safety regulations and safe working practices
- Ability to use handheld devices or job management systems to record work
- Good knowledge of repairs and maintenance
- Ability to work alone

To drive a Mears vehicle, you must be aged over 21, have held your licence for over 3 months and have less than 9 points.
As part of the recruitment process for this role, we will carry out a Background, Identity, Security clearance & BPSS check. For these checks we will require identity documents, proof of address, references, a valid passport and proof you have lived in the UK for the last 5 years.
