Electrical Instructor

Salary Range: $58,414-$108,868 (Commensurate with experience) Supervisor:

Under direction of the school principal, plan and provide instruction and skills training for students that focus on installation, operation, maintenance and/or repair of residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems. Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Monitor and evaluate student outcomes that include skills competencies prescribed by the Virginia Department of Education.

Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff and community. Develop, select and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintain appropriate records and follow required procedures and practices. Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.

Comply with school and School Board policy and regulations. Work cooperatively with the total staff. Relate positively to parents and other community representatives. Demonstrate professional growth. Be prompt and accurate with required reports and records. Demonstrate command of Standard English, both spoken and written. Accept responsibilities outside the classroom as they relate to school. Use instructional and planning time effectively. Assume responsibility for the care of materials, equipment and facilities.

Assume responsibility for a neat, safe environment for students committed to the teacher's care. Practice and promote positive interaction with and among students. Demonstrate interest in the students, encourage self-direction and self-motivation in students. Demonstrate knowledge of the subject being taught. Maintain an organized program of instruction based on long range plans. Exhibit evidence of effective lesson plans. Utilize appropriate and varied teaching techniques and learning activities.

Communicate lesson objectives and their importance to students. Demonstrate ability to adjust presentation of subject content to students' needs and interest. Supervise students in a variety of school related settings including service projects and SkillsUSA Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) Ability to create a safe laboratory environment, following OSHA standards for safe practices. Demonstrated ability to comply with federal, state, and local safety legal requirements, including VOSHA and EPA.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Administration.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in the appropriate subject area Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. Demonstrated ability in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, and planning. Knowledge of a wide range of scientific subject areas.

Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Bachelor's Degree

Experience:

Five years of experience in the field is preferred. License and Certification:
Must possess required certification or license and skill in Electrical systems (Journeyman or Masters). Holds or is eligible for a VDOE license with a teaching endorsement at the appropriate level

Working Conditions and Physical Demands Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone;

physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
