The Assistant Principal is a key leader within Saint Joseph Catholic School, a Catholic school serving students from junior kindergarten through 8th grade. This role supports the Principal in fostering a Christ-centered learning environment, ensuring academic excellence, and promoting the holistic development of students in alignment with Catholic values and teachings.
The role includes the following sections of responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities Faith and Mission Leadership- Actively promotes and upholds the Catholic identity and mission of the school.
- Encourages faculty, staff, and students to integrate faith into learning and daily activities.
- Supports liturgical celebrations, prayer services, and religious instruction in collaboration with the school’s chaplain and religion teachers.
- Fosters a school culture that embodies Gospel values, service, and ethical leadership.
- Assists in developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum and instructional strategies to ensure academic excellence.
- Provides support to teachers in lesson planning, instructional techniques, and classroom management.
- Analyzes student data to identify learning trends and improve educational outcomes.
- Oversees standardized testing administration and data interpretation.
- Supports professional development initiatives and continuous improvement for faculty.
- Implements and enforces student behavior policies in alignment with the school’s Catholic values.
- Provides restorative discipline, counseling, and mediation to foster student growth.
- Oversees student attendance and addresses truancy concerns.
- Works with parents, teachers, and counselors to support students’ social-emotional needs.
- Promotes a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
- Assists in the hiring, onboarding, and evaluation of faculty and staff.
- Observes classroom instruction and provides feedback for professional growth.
- Supports a collaborative, collegial faculty culture that prioritizes student success.
- Facilitates faculty meetings and contributes to the development of school policies.
- Assists in overseeing daily school operations, including scheduling, transportation, and facilities.

- Ensures compliance with diocesan policies, state regulations, and accreditation standards.
- Aids in budget planning and resource allocation in collaboration with the Principal and business manager.
- Builds strong relationships with parents, fostering open communication and collaboration.
- Attends school functions, parent meetings, and community events to promote engagement.
- Supports development and fundraising efforts in partnership with the school administration.
Requirements
Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church (preferred).
Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field.
Valid Virginia teaching license (Administration & Supervision endorsement preferred).
Minimum 3-5 years of teaching experience, preferably in Catholic or private education.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining focus on student-centered leadership.
Experience with curriculum development, student discipline, and faculty mentoring.
Proficiency with educational technology and school management systems.
