Job Description
Civica is searching for an Automation Engineer to work the first or second shift with experience in pharmaceutical drug product manufacturing. The Petersburg site is a new fill‑finish facility dedicated to manufacturing and supplying essential generic sterile injectable medications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Support and implement automation solutions across the facility in a fast‑paced environment.
- Work with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems (SCADA), preferably Rockwell’s Factory Talk View Systems and Siemens.
- Troubleshoot process control applications (Rockwell and Siemens PLCs) using Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI).
- Support Rockwell’s Data Historian, Asset Centre, Factory Talk Directory, and related tools.
- Support database administration and SQL.
- Troubleshoot day‑to‑day issues and provide guidance to junior engineers.
- Apply control system philosophy, standards, alarms, instrumentation configuration, and programming in a cGMP environment.
- Develop detailed specifications, engineering documents, SOPs, test scripts, and engineering standards.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional departments and clients to meet company expectations.
- Work independently, self‑motivated, organized, and able to multi‑task in a dynamic environment.
- Own process control automation administration in a GMP‑regulated setting.
- Generate and follow proper change control for any automation or process changes within the system.
- Lead root‑cause analysis, incident investigations, and troubleshooting on process control issues related to electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Support new product or technology introductions by performing engineering assessments, studies, implementing configuration changes, and supporting engineering runs.
- Design and test new and existing automation‑based process and packaging equipment.
- Assist in supporting network advancements and new technologies related to networking architectures.
- 3 years of engineering/automation experience or an associate degree and 6+ years of experience (preferably Electrical or Computer Engineering).
- Familiarity with 21 CFR Part 11, Data Integrity, and GAMP 5.
- Knowledge of data integrity guidelines from the FDA and their application in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Experience in a GMP environment, including change control, nonconformance, corrective and preventive actions, and validation practices.
- Hands‑on knowledge of at least one major PLC platform:
Allen Bradley PLCs (Control Logix or Compact Logix) with Studio 5000, or Siemens PLCs with TIA Portal. - Hands‑on experience with at least one of the following: virtual environments (ESXi 7.0, VMware Workstation, virtual network configuration) or batch reporting.
- Experience in sterile fill‑finish facility manufacturing.
- Knowledge of Factory Talk Directory, Factory Talk Asset Centre, Factory Talk Data Historian, Factory Talk View SE & ME, and WIN
911. - Experience with Thin Manager and Thin Clients.
- Familiarity with regulatory inspections.
- Experience with control projects and time management.
- Knowledge of change controls and investigations.
- Understanding of programming switches, firewalls, and network architecture design.
- Experience with SQL Server design, implementation, and support.
- Experience with BMS, EMS systems, OPC, ODBC, Data Historians, WIN
911, and utilities systems such as chillers, boilers, HVAC, and wastewater.
