The AV Instructional Technology Technician provides operational and technical support for audiovisual and instructional technology systems across classrooms, conference rooms, meeting spaces, and university event venues. This role supports reliable AV operations, troubleshooting, maintenance, installations, and live events while delivering professional technical assistance to faculty, staff, students, guests, and event participants.
Job DescriptionThe AV Instructional Technology Technician supports the University's instructional, administrative, and event technology needs by maintaining, troubleshooting, and operating audiovisual systems across campus. The technician helps ensure classroom and event technology remains operational and responsive, provides hands‑on technical assistance to users, and supports scheduled university events, including evening and weekend activities. The role contributes to a 95% or greater AV system uptime objective and supports AV installations, upgrades, preventative maintenance, and emergency operations.
ResponsibilitiesAudiovisual Technical Support
- Provide daily operational support for audiovisual and instructional technology in classrooms, conference rooms, meeting spaces, and university event venues.
- Diagnose and resolve issues involving projectors, displays, monitors, microphones, speakers, cameras, control systems, presentation equipment, video conferencing platforms, and related connectivity.
- Troubleshoot, install, operate, and maintain professional audiovisual equipment and systems.
- Perform routine system testing, preventative maintenance, and equipment inspections to maintain operational readiness and support departmental uptime goals.
- Complete minor installation and replacement work, including projectors, monitors, cables, adapters, and similar audiovisual components.
Classroom and User Support
- Provide professional technical assistance to faculty, staff, students, guests, and event participants.
- Assist users with classroom technology, presentation systems, conferencing platforms, and basic equipment operation.
- Respond promptly to classroom technology issues and provide effective technical solutions.
Event Support
- Provide audiovisual support for university events, commencements, conferences, meetings, executive functions, and other scheduled programs.
- Coordinate with event organizers to confirm technical requirements and ensure appropriate AV support.
- Monitor and respond to technical issues during live events and scheduled programs.
Administrative and Operational Support
- Document service requests, repairs, maintenance activities, and equipment changes in university ticketing or inventory systems.
- Support AV installations, technology upgrades, preventative maintenance, and other departmental technology initiatives.
- Assist with emergency operations and other duties assigned by the AV Instructional Technology Manager or ITS leadership.
- Support reliable audiovisual services that contribute to teaching, learning, university operations, and special events.
- Associate degree in Information Technology, Electronics, Audiovisual Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- At least two years of experience supporting professional or enterprise audiovisual systems.
- At least two years of experience troubleshooting, installing, operating, and maintaining audiovisual equipment.
