Onsite in Petersburg, VA
Our client seeks an Operations Field Engineer to install, service, and troubleshoot access control and CCTV systems at customer sites. The role requires hands‑on work with low-voltage electronics, cabling, readers, and related security hardware while adhering to safety standards. The engineer will diagnose system issues using software and test equipment, interpret technical documentation, and maintain accurate inventory. The role reports to the Field Manager and supports reliable security system performance for customers.
This is a contract to hire opportunity. Applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis and convert to FTE following contract duration. Rate: $25.00 to $28.00/hr. w2
Responsibilities
- Ensure all work is performed according to safety standards with a focus on quality customer service.
- Install cabling and card readers, mount equipment, door contacts and strikes, intrusion detection, CCTV equipment, and access control systems.
- Use diagnostic equipment and software with established troubleshooting techniques to isolate equipment failures and resolve performance issues.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, wiring diagrams, and other specifications.
- Manage and maintain proper material inventory.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of CCTV/IP video systems, access control platforms, intrusion systems, and low voltage electronics (5V–56V).
- Minimum one year of experience in the electronics field with commercial access control and CCTV.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, and crawl; work in confined spaces; lift and move items over 50 pounds; climb ladders and work from lifts and bucket trucks.
- Ability to work in various conditions including extreme heat and cold.
- Availability to work Monday–Friday 7:00 AM–5:00 PM with potential additional on-call work.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record and willingness to travel.
- Ability to discern color-coded wiring.
- Ability to maintain a satisfactory background record.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
