GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Welding Technology and Fabrication Instructor leads the reshaping of Welding Technology education and programs at North Central Michigan College, including
* Refreshing the existing Associate of Applied Science in Welding.
* Establishing new Welding Technology Certificate Programs culminating in American Welding Society certifications.
* Establishing a new Associate of Science (Transfer Degree) in Welding Technology.
* Managing and maintaining the Welding Laboratory in the new Martin Jahn Technology Center (currently under construction and opening July, 2026), as well as planning and implementing future expansions
* Serving as the content expert for the integration of Welding Technology within other Programs in the College's Manufacturing, Engineering Technology and Trades (METT) Division.
The Welding Technology and Fabrication Instructor will also demonstrate a commitment to student success, professional development, and the introduction of new courses/programs to ensure relevance to our local industry and community.
DUTIES:
* During initial Program Development phase (first 1- 2 years), teach 9-10 contact hours per semester, reserving 6 contact hours for development and strategic marketing of Welding Technology programs. Teach 15 contact hours per semester thereafter. Teaching assignments may include day and evening course times as well as coverage in Petoskey and NCMC's other, off-campus sites.
* Hold office hours per Collective Bargaining Agreement at times convenient for student consultations.
* Prepare instructional materials and deliver instruction to students in a variety of formats and settings, including classroom, laboratory, and hybrid.
* Provide timely feedback on students' progress, including evaluation of student work
* Work with Director of METT to maintain updated master syllabi of courses and mapping of Course Learning Outcomes to Program Learning Outcomes.
* Prepare and submit required documentation including course syllabi, student attendance, final course grades, and other information required by the college.
* Engage in college service in the areas of curriculum development, program outcomes assessment, program review, and instructional improvement.
* Participate in the college governance structure and/or strategic planning process through committee service.
* Collaborate with adjunct faculty in Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, and Trades and related fields.
* May be assigned additional duties as time and schedule allow, such as delivery of occasional non-credit training classes in Welding Technology, to advance Workforce & Community Education goals.
Requirements:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
* Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree or higher in Welding Technology or related field
* AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) (or equivalent)
* Significant (5+ years) of industrial welding experience
* Ability to teach courses in Welding Technology and at least one related Manufacturing and Engineering Technology field, such as CNC Machining, Factory Automation, Mechatronics, or Quality Control/Lean Manufacturing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* AWS Certified Welding Educator (CWE) (or equivalent)
* AWS Certified Welding Engineer (CWEng) (or equivalent)
* BS (or higher) in Welding Engineering or Welding Engineering Technology
* BS (or higher) in Career and Technical Education or related field
* Teaching experience at the high school CTE level, community college level (or higher) or in industry training
* Familiarity and/or experience with educational program accreditation
