Job Description Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • An approved Michigan secondary certificate
  • Spanish (FF) Endorsement
  • Additional qualifications as deemed appropriate by the board of education

Supervisor: Building Administrator

Primary Function: To provide instruction in subject‑matter, helping students develop skills that will contribute to growth and employment as mature, able, and responsible citizens.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Plans a program of study that meets individual needs of students and develops their interests, abilities, and citizenship.
  • Maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning, with appropriate behavior standards and utilizes all available time for teaching and learning.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of approved curriculum goals, establishes clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, and uses a variety of instructional strategies.
  • Employs instructional methods and materials appropriate to Michigan standards and curriculum objectives, ensuring academic growth of all students.
  • Assesses student accomplishment regularly and provides progress reports to parents, students, and staff as required.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other staff to address learning, health, and attitude challenges.
  • Communicates with colleagues, students, and parents regularly, presenting information accurately and addressing questions.
  • Maintains professional competence through in‑service education and professional growth activities.
  • Supervises students in out‑of‑classroom activities during the school day.
  • Assists administration in implementing district policies governing student life and conduct.
  • Follows guidelines and responsibilities outlined in the Teacher’s Handbook.
  • Continually improves professional competency.
  • Attends staff meetings, participates in faculty committees, and sponsors student activities during and after school.
  • Maintains professional appearance and serves as a positive role model supporting the district mission.
  • Complies with all district policies approved by the board.
  • Monitors student attendance, grades, assessments, and supplies, keeping accurate records.
  • Differentiates lessons to accommodate individual student differences.
  • Conducts regular formative assessment and uses results for instruction.
  • Uses technology in teaching and learning processes.
  • Assists students in analyzing and improving study methods and habits.
  • Assesses progress toward learning targets and provides feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, paraprofessionals, volunteers, and student workers to provide an effective classroom program.
  • Responds to emergency situations and directs appropriate personnel.
Terms of Employment

School year as defined in the written agreement between the Public Schools of Petoskey Board of Education and the Petoskey Education Association.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board of Education policy and the Master Agreement between the Public Schools of Petoskey Board of Education and the Petoskey Education Association.
