Job DescriptionQUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree and five or more years of teaching experience, preferred
- Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate
- Possess strong, positive leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education deems appropriate and acceptable
SUPERVISOR: High School Principal
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: To serve as a support and leader at the building level in implementing, monitoring and developing our at‑risk population supports; coordinate with the in‑school suspension room supervisor to support students assigned to ISS for code of conduct violations and support the Polaris alternative program and support the Polaris alternative program.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned):
- Maintains appropriate professional decorum and norms with utmost confidentiality concerning students and families.
- Assists in identifying at‑risk students (academic & behavioral).
- Regularly collaborates with PBIS Coordinator, At‑Risk Team, and building administrators to review student data and building trends.
- Carrying a caseload of at-risk students and advances this cohort’s academic, emotional and physical well-being by providing best-practice supports such as Check‑In/Check‑Out.
- Serves as the lead teacher for the Polaris Alternative Education Program, providing instructional leadership and oversight of student academic progress.
- Collaborates with the Polaris Academic Aide to monitor daily student attendance, academic performance, behavior, and overall progress.
- Meets individually and/or in small groups with Polaris students on a weekly basis to review academic achievement, monitor progress toward graduation requirements, establish goals, and develop strategies for student success.
- Provides differentiated academic instruction, intervention, and support to meet the unique learning needs of students enrolled in the Polaris program.
- Communicates regularly with Polaris families regarding student progress.
- Monitors Polaris student data and maintains accurate records related to attendance, academic progress, and interventions.
- Coordinates with the ISS room supervisor to maintain a supportive atmosphere and facilitate the accomplishment of assigned work and restorative practices.
- Complies with all school district policies, rules, and response to crisis situations approved by the Board of Education.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on building and district committees (as requested).
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: School year as defined in the written agreement between the Petoskey Board of Education and the Petoskey Education Association
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy of the Board of Education and the Master Agreement between the Petoskey Board of Education and the Petoskey Education Association.
