Position: SUBSTITUTE TEACHER - Retired Teachers (2024-25)

Substitute Teacher Positions Available

Reports to:

Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources or local district administrator

Available:
Substitute positions available in all Monroe County Schools for qualified retired teachers for the 2025-26 school year. Work schedule based on district calendar. Hours and schedule determined at time of employment.

Salary & Benefits:

$130.00 per day for general education position; $145.00 per day for special education position. ISD Retirees daily rates may be higher

Job Summary:

Essential Duties:
  • Follow the lesson plan provided by the teacher
  • Maintain appropriate records such as attendance and grades
  • Establish and maintain order in the classroom
  • Maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning
  • Manage student behaviors in a positive and effective manner
  • Treat all students with dignity and respect
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the safety and security of students, materials, equipment and facilities
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules and administrative regulations
  • Must have reliable transportation

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Education:

Bachelor's Degree minimum, required, and valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with CI, EI, or LD or other appropriate special education or general education endorsement.

Experience:

One year classroom teaching experience preferred. Experience in supervision and/or direction of non-certified personnel preferred.

Skills/Other:
Ability to apply current research and theory to instruction. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and memos. Ability to interact positively with staff, students and parents. Ability to work with individuals and groups. Ability to work in team environment. Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

Criminal History Check:
All substitutes must undergo a Michigan and FBI criminal history check. The processing fee of $43.25 is the responsibility of the applicant. Substitute teachers with an expired teaching certificate will be required to have a substitute permit. The cost is $42.00 and is the responsibility of the applicant.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and peripheral vision. The employee needs to be able to tell where a sound is coming from and hear in a noisy environment. Occasionally will assist in physical management of students.
