Adult Education, IT/Computer Science Instructor
Through leadership by example, provide instruction, administer authentic assessments, and foster an active learning environment focused on student foundational competence, success, retention, and completion. The Adult Basic Education Instructor delivers standards‑based instruction in the High School Equivalency Diploma 5.09 program, supporting adult learners in building foundational academic and life skills. This role fosters an engaging, inclusive environment, develops curriculum, uses authentic assessments, provides meaningful feedback, and applies data and technology to support continuous improvement while collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain course curriculum, aligning it to departmental, state, and other applicable standards and outcomes.
- Plan, deliver, and facilitate student learning, providing ongoing quality feedback.
- Assess student attainment of learning outcomes and critical life skills (both formative and summative) at the course, program, and college level.
- Collect, report, analyze, and use data to support continuous improvement at the course, program, and college level.
- Use technology to facilitate student learning, college processes, and personal productivity.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate as a productive member of a team.
- Maintain college learning resources and equipment.
- Participate in recruitment and retention activities.
- Pursue ongoing professional development, maintain occupational competency, and ensure knowledge of current laws and regulations related to the profession(s) in which instruction is provided.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of programmatic discipline, curriculum development, effective teaching/learning principles, and evaluation.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills—oral, written, active listening, and non‑verbal cues.
- Strong customer‑service skills, including working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to manage time, organize work, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to effectively integrate technology into instructional delivery and assessment.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with internal staff, management, personnel, and external contacts (employers, clients, vendors).
- Ability to apply critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to work and/or improve processes and/or systems.
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and/or with minimal supervision.
- Ability to prioritize work and adapt to changing priorities.
- Intermediate level proficiency with computer software applications such as word processing, database, spreadsheet, and presentation programs. Knowledge of and familiarity with video‑conferencing and technologies associated with adult‑centric teaching and learning, including web technologies, operating systems, online program tracking platforms, social media platforms, mobile technology tools, and/or AV/multimedia applications and equipment.
- Twenty-four months of directly related occupational (teaching) experience.
- One year of occupational experience must be within the last five years.
- Master's degree in Education or related field.
- Attain and maintain a WTCS teaching certificate.
This is a full‑time instructor position on a flexible year‑round calendar. Teaching assignments include variable hours—days, evenings, and/or weekends.
Starting Date and ResidencyPosition is available for start on August 3, 2026. Wisconsin residence is required.
