As a Storm Water Technician, you’ll work in a variety of environments; a large portion of the position will be directly in the field, overseeing construction storm water, or collecting samples for municipal MS4 compliance to assisting in wetland delineations, to office work to support environmental compliance objectives. Project types we facilitate also vary, from private development to agriculture to municipal infrastructure projects such as sewer, water, paving, and more.

Goals & Responsibilities

This position includes, but is not limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform regular field inspections to evaluate erosion control effectiveness and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Identify and document any non‑compliance issues, providing recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Maintain detailed inspection records, including photographs and compliance statuses.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing inspection findings and detailing corrective measures.
  • Inspections can include Construction storm water, Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination (IDDE), Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), and best management practice/devices.
  • Facilitate wetland and waterway delineations.
  • Help support in the development of environmental compliance documentation for submittals associated with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, United States Army Corps of Engineers, United States Fish and Wildlife Service, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Public Service Commission, Safe Drinking Water Loan Programs, and other Funding Programs.
  • Collaborate effectively with clients, contractors, engineers and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance and address issues promptly.
Qualifications & Skills

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following education, experience, and abilities:

  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, biology, ecology, botany, natural resources, or related field is preferred, but not required.
  • Familiarity with erosion control and environmental compliance regulations is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with engineering, construction processes, municipal infrastructure, or ESRI Arc Pro is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and assist with on‑site coordination.
  • Proficiency in using equipment to measure, estimate, and verify project specifications.
  • Strong initiative, a positive attitude, and thorough attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to act independently, providing proactive support for changing site conditions.
  • A commitment to learning, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Eagerness to expand industry knowledge and a willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Flexibility to adapt to various projects and travel to different locations as required.
  • A valid driver’s license, personal vehicle, and insurance.
