BIM/VDC Designer

We are seeking a BIM/VDC Designer to support commercial and industrial mechanical construction projects through the development, coordination, and maintenance of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) systems. This position plays a critical role in creating accurate 3D models, fabrication drawings, and coordinated construction documents that drive project success from design through installation.

The ideal candidate has experience with Revit, CAD, and BIM coordination in a mechanical construction environment and enjoys collaborating with project managers, engineers, shop personnel, field teams, and trade partners. This individual will contribute to project efficiency by identifying conflicts early, improving constructability, and supporting fabrication and installation workflows.

Our client is a leading mechanical contractor specializing in HVAC, piping, plumbing, fabrication, automation, and mission-critical construction projects. Key responsibilities include:

  • Review project specifications, engineering drawings, addendums, proposals, and contract documents
  • Develop and maintain detailed 3D BIM models for mechanical systems
  • Create fabrication, assembly, spool, and coordination drawings for construction and shop use
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, foremen, fabrication teams, and other stakeholders throughout project execution
  • Perform clash detection and multidisciplinary trade coordination to identify and resolve design conflicts
  • Generate project documentation required for permitting, fabrication, installation, and project closeout
  • Support constructability reviews and provide recommendations for improving installation efficiency
  • Process drawing revisions and design changes throughout project life cycles
  • Organize and maintain project files, models, drawings, and related documentation
  • Maintain CAD, BIM, and VDC standards to ensure model accuracy and consistency
  • Communicate coordination issues and design solutions with project teams and trade partners
  • Assist in improving BIM workflows, processes, and technology utilization

Qualifications include:

  • 3+ years of CAD and/or Revit experience
  • Experience developing BIM models and detailed construction drawings in a mechanical, MEP, or construction environment
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, construction documents, and project specifications
  • Working knowledge of BIM coordination and VDC processes
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Effective communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative project team

Preferred skills include:

  • Experience with in HVAC, piping, plumbing, or mechanical construction
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Revit and related BIM software platforms
  • Familiarity with clash detection software and coordination meetings
  • Experience generating fabrication and spool drawings
  • Understanding of construction means, methods, and installation sequencing
  • Exposure to Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) best practices
  • Experience supporting commercial, healthcare, industrial, manufacturing, or institutional construction projects
