Up to $40.00/hr + Overtime Greater Milwaukee / Waukesha County, WI Area (100% Onsite / Occasional Field Travel) 1st Shift / Mon-Fri (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM) Full-Time / Direct Hire

  • Compensation & Overtime:
Baseline pay up to $40.00/hr based on machine building depth, plus premium overtime pay eligibility and a full corporate benefits package.
  • Schedule & Variety:
Exclusive 1st Shift (Mon-Fri, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM) building custom, one-off automated systems, packaging lines, and robotic cells - no repetitive benchwork.
  • Core Technical Scope:
Precision ground-up assembly, mechanical alignment, shimming, fluid power routing (pneumatics/hydraulics), and schematic interpretation.
  • Shop & Travel Model:
Clean, collaborative assembly floor with dedicated bays for complete builds and client runoffs, paired with occasional travel for field commissioning.
  • Strict Requirements: U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency (Green Card) required; proven experience building complex industrial capital equipment or custom automation.

If you are a skilled mechanical specialist who takes pride in assembling complex, high-value systems from the ground up - rather than sitting at a bench performing repetitive production assembly - this direct-hire Machine Tool Technician seat offers the ideal professional home. Working with an established, highly respected regional custom machinery builder, you will assemble unique, one-of-a-kind manufacturing systems, processing equipment, and robotic cells for diverse industrial clients.

Taking full ownership from raw frame to pre-shipment runoff, you will collaborate closely with project engineers, refine mechanical tolerances, route fluid power lines, and participate in occasional field installations.

What You Will Be Doing (Daily Responsibilities)
  • Build Custom Automation:
Assemble a wide variety of custom, high-value automated manufacturing equipment, processing systems, and robotics from the ground up.
  • Interpret Technical Schematics:
Read multi-page mechanical drawings, structural assembly prints, and fluid power schematics to determine exact tolerances and component layouts.
  • Precision Alignment & Fitting:
Utilize precision metrology tools (dial indicators, micrometers, calipers) to align, shim, connect, and secure complex mechanical sub-assemblies.
  • Route Cable & Fluid Lines:
Mount and route electrical cabling, pneumatic lines, and hydraulic circuits across active machine frames.
  • Build Optimization & Troubleshooting:
Work hand-in-hand with engineering teams to resolve mechanical fit deviations, refine clearances, and test subsystem functions.
  • Shipment Prep & Field Support:
Tear down and prep completed cells for transport, traveling occasionally to client sites for commissioning while mentoring junior assemblers.
What We Are Looking For (Requirements & Qualifications)
  • Custom Machine Building Depth:
Proven track record as a Custom Machine Builder, Machine Tool Technician, or Precision Mechanical Assembler on industrial capital equipment.
  • Blueprint & Schematic Mastery:
Expert capability reading and executing complex multi-page mechanical prints, structural layouts, and fluid power schematics.
  • Precision Metrology

    Skills:

High-level proficiency with precision measuring tools, hand/power assembly tools, and shop support machinery.
  • Travel Flexibility:
Willingness to undertake occasional field travel to client facilities for system startup and installation.
  • Location & Authorization: U.S. Citizenship or Green Card holder residing within a comfortable daily driving distance of Greater Milwaukee / Waukesha County.
Preferred Technical Assets (Bonus Skills)
  • Fluid Power Expertise:
Specialized knowledge in high-pressure hydraulic hose routing or complex pneumatic manifold setup.
  • Rigging & Overhead Crane:
Experience operating overhead cranes, rigging heavy machine weldments, and utilizing precision laser alignment tools.
  • Field Service Exposure:
Direct client-facing experience performing mechanical field service, installation, or retrofits.
