Job Description
United Rentals Power & HVAC is seeking a Technician to support the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of temporary power generation and HVAC rental equipment. This position supports critical customer operations, including major data center projects throughout Wisconsin. Technicians work both in the field and at the branch, responding to service calls, performing equipment repairs, assisting with equipment setup, and ensuring customers receive reliable service.
The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, eager to learn, comfortable working outdoors, and willing to work overtime and participate in an on-call rotation.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain generators and temporary power equipment
Travel to customer job sites to perform preventative maintenance and emergency repairs
Support major data center projects and other commercial/industrial customer locations
Perform equipment startups, shutdowns, installations, and operational testing
Run cable, assist with power distribution setup, and support equipment deployments
Document service work, maintenance activities, and equipment issues
Work closely with branch personnel and customers to maintain uptime and reliable service
Participate in the rotating on-call schedule and respond to urgent customer needs

Skills and Requirements
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
Experience as a field service technician, diesel technician, generator technician, heavy equipment mechanic, industrial maintenance technician, or similar role
Willingness and ability to learn generator systems and temporary power equipment
Valid driver's license and ability to operate a company vehicle
Comfortable working independently in the field and responding to customer service calls
Ability to work overtime, averaging approximately 50+ hours per week when needed
Willingness to participate in a rotating on-call schedule and respond to after-hours emergencies
Strong customer service mindset and team-oriented attitude
