Summaryof Position
Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator, the Assistant Camp Director supervises the on‑site delivery of the Kyle Camp program for campers ages 5 – 15. This role oversees Head Counselors, Camp Counselors, and youth campers while ensuring a safe and positive environment for all participants. Responsibilities include developing engaging programming, managing camp resources, and ensuring all activities – such as indoor and outdoor games, sports, arts and crafts, and special field trips – comply with established policies and safety standards.

Kyle 2025 Summer Camp is a nine‑week day program running Monday through Friday, May 26th – July 31st, from 7:00 am to 5:45 pm. June 29th – July 3rd a camp break will occur. Serving students entering 1st through 9th grade, the camp offers a dynamic schedule of indoor and outdoor activities.
Essential Functions- Establish and maintain workplace safety policies and procedures by effectively communicating to counselors.
- Coordinate daily activities utilizing available resources and materials, and ensure staff have clear instructions.
- Provide direction for camp counselors and head counselors and ensure compliance with required policies, procedures, and regulations, documenting and addressing issues as needed with staff.
- Work with Recreation Coordinator to determine work procedures, prepare work schedules, and expedite workflow; study and standardize procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
- Collect and maintain camper, staff, and field trip records.
- Ensure parents and staff receive schedules and reminders in a timely and organized manner.
- Address behavior, safety, and health issues with parents in a respectful and professional manner, regarding camp attendees.
- Attend all required meetings, training, and in‑services brought forth by the Recreation Coordinator and Recreation Manager.
- Maintain positive interpersonal relations among everyone involved in the Day Camp program, including children, parents, school staff, camp counselors, Recreation Coordinator and Recreation Manager.
- Maintain related records and forms for programs and personnel at the Day Camps; prepare and verify attendance and accident/incident reports and submit to the Recreation Coordinator in a timely manner; process paperwork completed accurately and timely.
- Coordinate the development and management of internal & external communication channels to keep employees informed about news, policies, and updates.
- Work full schedule May 26th – July 31st (Monday–Friday) with some weekend training; shifts may vary between 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
- Perform other duties assigned by city leadership.
- Strong organizational and task‑management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with camp staff, campers, and parents/guardians.
- Previous experience in childcare, recreation, education, or a related field.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Good role model, high integrity, and adaptable.
- Positive attitude and ability to build or work as a cohesive team.
- Graduated from high school or obtained a GED equivalent.
- Two (2) years of professional experience in childcare and/or youth recreation programs.
